Will continue to function vibrantly: M Karunanidhi

Party not afraid of police repressive action: DMK chief.

Chennai: Alleging lack of democracy in the Assembly, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Monday said the issue would be taken to people through several public meetings. The next stage of action would be decided after consultation in various party fora.

Addressing a public meeting in North Chennai here, he said one meeting was not enough to ‘expose the tactics of the ruling party’ and many such were needed.

Alleging that DMK was defeated in the Assembly elections through a conspiracy, he asserted that those behind the conspiracy would receive proper judgment from people.

Karunanidhi said he was not worried about the electoral defeat, as those who worked to defeat the party did not work against a particular party, but a policy, which could not be defeated. The party was not afraid of any kind of repressive action by police and would continue to function vibrantly.

Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin charged there was no freedom in administration and the state government was not co-operating with the judiciary. The Speaker should function as per rules of the House.

The DMK is supporting good actions of the government on people’s issues.
The party had to oppose certain remarks of the ruling party members to protect its self-respect. The party members were evicted from the Assembly last week without any prior warning, he said and charged that it was a pre-planned and deliberate move by the ruling party.

Recalling that AIADMK leader J.Jayalalithaa had attended the Assembly alone and spoke in a discussion, he said she was allowed to speak by Karunanidhi who was the Chief Minister at that time.

Deputy Leader of the opposition, K. Duraimurugan said the Speaker should follow not only the rules but also the House tradition. Congress floor leader K.R. Ramasamy also spoke.
