Stalin invites KCR to Chennai for FIDE Chess Olympiad
Hyderabad: DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday invited his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrashekar Rao to the inauguration of the world’s biggest chess event – the 44th International Chess Olympiad organised by International Chess Federation (FIDE) – from July 28 to August 10 in Mamallapuram near Chennai.
Stalin deputed his party MP Girirajan to Hyderabad who handed over the invitation letter to Rao at Pragathi Bhavan.
There are doubts surround Rao attending the event which is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rao has been avoiding meeting Modi since February 5, when the PM visited Hyderabad to inaugurate Statue of Equality and on May 26 when he came to the Indian School of Business. Rao did not receive the PM when he came to the city for the BJP's national executive meeting on July 2 and 3.
Rao last met Modi on September 3 last year in Delhi and submitted representations on several pending issues concerning Telangana. However, after Huzurabad bypoll in October last year, in which BJP trounced TRS, both the parties are engaged in a bitter political battle.
