Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi demands UT status for greater Rayalaseema

If Rayalaseema cannot be declared as a Union Territory, then Greater Rayalaseema should be declared as a separate state

KADAPA: Founder-president of Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi (RRS) Kuncham Venkata Subbareddy urged the Union government to declare Rayalaseema, Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Chittoor district as Union Territories.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that if Rayalaseema cannot be declared as a Union Territory, then Greater Rayalaseema should be declared as a separate state, comprising Prakasam, Nellore, Krishnagiri, Bellary, Raichur, Chitradurga, Kolar and Vellore districts. It was only with such radical changes that there can be a semblance of justice to Rayalaseema districts.

Subbareddy said that he has written letters to the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Speaker of the Lok Sabha seeking that the issue be discussed threadbare in the current session of Parliament.

He said that successive governments had neglected the region, which could have been one of the richest regions in the country, if there was a productive use of rich mines, sea connectivity, climate, low-cost lands, and intellectual human resources. This can still be accomplished in 15 years if appropriate measures are taken, he said.
