AIADMK (Amma) will get 2 leaves, win polls: TN Finance minister

The court advised the state to hold the polls within August 31.

Chennai: Finance minister D. Jayakumar on Saturday said the AIADMK (Amma) would get the 'two leaves" symbol and the party would win the local body polls.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, he said the party is not afraid to face the elections and pointed out that the state had allocated Rs 160 crore in the state budget for holding the polls. "We are always ready to face people", he said.

The local body elections should have been held a year ago, but it was stopped following a petition by DMK MP R.S. Bharathi seeking reservation for SC/ST. Justice Kirubakaran cancelled the State Election Commission notification for civic body elections and ordered the commission to hold the polls within December after following court directions.

Another fresh petition was filed to expedite the polls which came up before a two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M.Sundar.

The court advised the state to hold the polls within August 31. The counsel for SEC said the court had ruled that the criminal case details of candidates should be attached with the affidavit. The case had been adjourned to July 26.
