Uttam Kumar Reddy backs miners' stir on dependent jobs
Hyderabad: TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday demanded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao fulfil his election promise of continuing the Dependent Employment Scheme in Singareni Collieries Company Limited.
Accompanied by senior Congress leaders T. Jeevan Reedy, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and others, the TPCC chief visited Godavarikhani where he interacted with the SCCL workers who have been on strike since June 15 demanding jobs for dependents.
Expressing solidarity with striking trade unions, Mr Reddy said that the ongoing strike was for the future of over 55,000 coal miners working with the SCCL and their children.
He said the CM was never sincere about giving jobs to dependents of Sinagreni workers and therefore, he was unable to fulfil this major poll promise even after three years of being in power
The TPCC chief also accused the CM of taking a U-turn on the issue of opencast mining. He said that Mr Rao had promised to ban opencast mining, but approved 16 such mines since 2014.
