Vijayakanth's DMDK quits PWA alliance
Chennai: After much deliberation, actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK on Wednesday walked out of the much celebrated Third Front with a public announcement that his party would go it alone in the municipal polls scheduled in October.
On behalf of the DMDK, which joined the PWA comprising MDMK, VCK and the Left parties on the eve of the Assembly elections, it was said they had just entered into an electoral alliance with the combine and now they are preparing to contest the local body polls on their own.
“The DMDK will fight the local body polls as a rejuvenated force. We will contest the local body elections on our own. If some parties want to align with us, we will consider it. But, the DMDK will be the leader of that alliance if it materialises,” party treasurer A.R. Elangovan said.
