BRS, BJP betrayed sugarcane farmers: Congress

KARIMNAGAR: Juvvadi Krishna Rao, Congress Korutla Assembly constituency in-charge, said that both BRS and BJP leaders falsely promised the inauguration of Muthyampet Sugar Plant if they were elected. Even after nine years of rule, neither government took any steps to open the sugar mill, he said.

Demanding that the state government fulfil the election promise of opening the sugar mill, the Congress leader embarked on a one-of-a-kind movement, conducting padayatras with sugarcane farmers from each village on the 22nd of each month.

As part of the campaign, Krishna Rao led a padayatra from Muthyampet village panchayat to the sugar plant, where he staged a dharna alongside farmers and burned an effigy of the BRS government on Monday in Muthyampet of Mallapur mandal in Jagtial district.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Rao said that former BRS MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha promised sugarcane farmers that the government will reopen the sugar factory and do justice to the farmers of this region if the BRS was formed within 100 days.

The Congress leader said, “Even Korutla BRS MLA Kalvakuntla Vidhyasagar Rao boasted that if the government did not follow its pledge, he would hang himself at the entrance of the sugar factory. Apart from that, Nizamabad BJP MP Dharmapuri Aravind assured sugarcane farmers that if the state government did not build the sugar factory, he would take the initiative and open it with his own money. However, despite nine years of rule by both the BJP and the BRS governments, neither has looked at the Muthyampet Sugar factory and has made no moves to reopen it. Both the BJP and the BRS parties misled the sugarcane farmers.”

He said that the sugar factory will be operational as soon as Congress assumes office. Until then, he said, the Congress would stage a padayatra from each village on the 22nd of each month to teach the BRS administration a lesson.
