DMK seeks salvation for its sins by desilting: Tamilisai Soundararajan

DMK responsible for encroaching into waterbodies'.

Chennai: DMK’s persistent criticism of the BJP evoked a severe backlash from the saffron party with it’s State President Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan who in her sarcastic best remarked that the DMK is seeking pava vimochanam (salvation for their sin) by taking up the desilting of temple tanks.

DMK working president M.K. Stalin’s mud slinging campaign that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had time to meet former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam in Delhi but not the agitating farmers, provoked the senior BJP leader to lash out at the DMK. “The DMK is questioning why the PM can’t meet the farmers. Did they (DMK) meet the people or resolve the people’s problems when they ruled the state. Stalin is very desperate to somehow gain political recognition. So, he is coming up with statements on a daily basis,” she said.

Aiming to pin down the DMK, she said, it was the opposition DMK that had encroached upon the water bodies. “Chennai was marooned in floods (in 2015 December) because of the DMK but today they are desilting the temple tanks for gaining pava vimochanam. This is Stalin’s stand now,” Dr. Tamilisai added. Speaking to reporters at the airport here on Monday she said the DMK had no moral responsibility to convene all-party meeting on farmers’ issues. But that party “enacted a farce” by holding the meeting and wanted to meet the PM for political gains. “There is no need to meet the PM under such circumstances,” she claimed.

On BJP national chief Amit Shah’s open invitation to ‘superstar’ Rajinikanth, she replied, “Rajini should decide. Whether he or god decides, we have to wait and see. He says he would take a plunge into politics if it’s the will of the god. Like him, we too have faith on god. We welcome him to join hands to strengthen PM Modi’s fight against corruption.”

Asked if her party would insist upon holding the local bodies elections, Dr. Tamilisai replied, the civic bodies polls should be held. “It is immaterial whether the ruling AIADMK has two leaves or a single leaf in its possession. They should not postpone the elections as they don’t have the symbol.…civic bodies ought to function to provide amenities to the people,” she emphasised.
