Key projects to top agenda: Kadakampally Surendran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kadakampally Surendran, one of the sure members in the new Cabinet, has been an active face in the political arena of the state capital over the last several decades. The 63-year CPM leader is a second time MLA after a gap of nearly two decades.
With his elevation as a minister, Mr. Surendran is expected to play key role in pressing issues and major projects roles like garbage disposal, Vizhinjam port project, NH widening, land acquisition for airport development, flooding of city roads and proposed mono rail.
Mr. Surendran, who is also a state committee member of CPM, has been focusing more on party politics after his term as MLA from Kazhakkoottam in 1996. Though he contested from Attingal in 2001 and from Kazhakootam in 2006, he could not make it to the second-term as MLA. His name also figured during the allegations of Abkari-politicians nexuses following the Kalluvathukal hooch tragedy.
Kadakampally had a long term of nearly ten years as CPM district secretary, till he quit the post recently to contest in the polls. He had taken the lead role in many political agitations in the state capital during this period. It is a testimony to his lead role in the political agitations in the state capital that about 45 cases were pending against him, most of which pertaining to agitations. Charges were not yet framed in any of these cases.
Born to C.K. Krishnan Kutty and Bhagavathi Kutty at Karikkakom, Mr. Surendran did his studies at St Joseph High School, Chempazhanthy SN College and University College. His wife Sulekha is a teacher at Abraham Memorial Higher Secondary School and the couple has two sons, Arun and Anoop.
