AIADMK appoints election incharge, campaign panels

Four Assembly byelections to be held on May 19.

Chennai: The ruling AIADMK has appointed election incharge besides campaign committees for the four Assembly constituencies (Sulur, Aravakkurichi, Thiruparankundram and Ottapidaram) for which by-poll will be held on May 19.

Ministers, headquarter office-bearers, MPs, legislators, former Ministers, district functionaries besides office-bearers of various wings the party and area secretaries will work for each constituency allotted to them, said party coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and joint coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in a statement here on Monday.

Sulur gets office-bearers of 13 party districts, while Aravakurichi 14, Thiruparankundram 17 and Ottapidaram Assembly constituency gets 11.

The two senior leaders who chaired a high-level meeting of party’s district secretaries here, have advised them how to go about in the elections.

The AIADMK will announce its candidates for the by-polls soon. The party has already roped in the support of several parties including PMK, BJP, DMDK and Puthiya Tamizhagam, for the by-election. “AIADMK-BJP-PMK alliance will win all the 38 seats in this Lok Sabha election. Our victory is also assured in the by-elections,” the CM had said, after the April 18 polls. He had also announced that AIADMK’s alliance with the same parties would continue in the next elections too.

The by-election is very crucial for the AIADMK, as this would help the party to improve its tally in the 234-member strong Assembly. Also, it would stave off any threats by the DMK to claim numbers anywhere close to the majority on the floor of the Assembly.
