TPCC wants Dharna Chowk PIL dismissed

Mudiraj urged the court to permit him to implead in the PIL to argue against it.

Hyderabad: An application has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee official spokesperson M. Nagesh Mudiraj seeking dismissal of a PIL moved against the granting of permission for protests, rallies and dharnas in Hyderabad city and the Dharna Chowk at Indira Park.

Earlier, one T. Dhangopal Rao, a social activist of the city moved the PIL seeking to direct the police not to permit any protest in the city as no person has a right to cause inconvenience to any other person or cause threat to life, liberty, and damage of property of any citizen in the name of a strike. This led to the government saying that it will shift the Dharna Chowk to the outskirts of the city.

Mr Mudiraj, while terming the PIL “unfortunate”, said that in a democratic society, people have the right to register their protest against the anti-people policies of the governments by way of staging dharnas, taking out rallies and organising meetings.

He said that the authorities have got the power to control such protest programmes but cannot impose a ban on them. Mr Mudiraj urged the court to permit him to implead in the PIL to argue against it.
