Telangana projects will deprive water to Andhra Pradesh: PCC chief

The PCC chief said that there was not much progress on Polavaram project works as the Telangana government raised objection over it.

Anantapur: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy on Friday alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu colluded with Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to protect his interests. Talking to media persons at Congress office, the PCC chief said that Naidu failed to protect the interests of farmers despite the Telangana government constructing lift irrigation projects to store 160 tmc ft water.

If the Telangana government completes Kalwakurthy, Dindi and Palamuru lift irrigation projects, the PCC chief said that eight districts in Andhra Pradesh will face shortage of both irrigation and drinking water. Stating that Congress was objecting to the Pattiseema Project since its inception, Mr Raghuveera Reddy recalled that even the Telangana government raised objection over the same in this regard to the Centre.

The PCC chief said that Chandrababu Naidu was not raising objection over the lift irrigation projects taken up by Telangana state in order to protect him from vote for note scam. Claiming these lift irrigation projects are against the Bachawat Tribunal verdict, the PCC chief said if these projects are completed, the state would not get a single drop of water from Srisailam project. The PCC chief said that there was not much progress on Polavaram project works as the Telangana government raised objection over it. Though Telangana government raised objections over the construction of Pattiseema project, it changed its tune later, the PCC chief said.

Mr Raghuveera Reddy said that the Congress would organise a meeting with the farmers of Prakasam, Nellore, Krishna and Rayalaseema at Srisailam reservoir on Saturday to elicit their opinion.

The PCC chief said that the Congress would continue its agitation against the TD government to protect the interests of farmers and chalk out an action plan after discussing with farmers' leaders.
