Denied ticket, former TRS MP resigns

Mr Vivekanand will meet his followers at Ramagundam on Saturday to decide his next steps.

Hyderabad: Former MP G. Vivekanand on Friday resigned as state government adviser after the TRS denied him a nomination from the Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat.

Mr Vivekanand in his resignation letter said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had invited him back into the party “with the word that the Peddapalli Lok Sabha ticket will be given to me due to my active contribution in achieving the statehood for Telangana.”

“Subsequently, I was appointed adviser to the Government so I could continue serving the people of Peddapalli, like my father late G. Venkataswamy did for more than 60 years,” he wrote. He said that he was resigning with immediate effect as he was denied the nomination. He said he had not availed of any benefits from the government during his tenure.

Mr Vivekanand will meet his followers at Ramagundam on Saturday to decide his next steps. Sources said he may join the Congress. Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who was denied the the Lok Sabha ticket, is also planning to leave the TRS.
