No alliance with DMDK: MK Stalin

''To accept or reject the invitation is their prerogative. We have no rights to interfere in their decision.â€

Chennai: DMK leader M.K Stalin on Tuesday denied any alliance with DMDK. He went on to say, “It is true that the DMK leader invited DMDK for the alliance. To accept or reject the invitation is their prerogative. We have no rights to interfere in their decision.”

Answering a question on Karunanidhi’s remarks that talks were being held between DMK and DMDK, he said a section of the media had not understood what the DMK leader had stated and exaggerated and criticised his remarks. Stalin also said the election manifesto of the party is nearing completion and it would be released soon.

TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan, also echoed Stalin’s comments, saying, “The DMK-Congress alliance is very strong. This alliance will win the elections even if Vijayakanth does not join the front”. The Congress leader had said Monday he would welcome Vijayakanth if the actor joined the DMK-Congress front to defeat the AIADMK”.

The Congress also made progress towards seat sharing talks with the nomination of an eight-member committee to discuss the formula. To a query on seat negotiations, Elangovan said senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik, AICC general secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu, would meet Karunanidhi in one or two days to decide on the number of seats for the Congress. He further said the party would commence its election campaign in another ten days.

Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah too played down the Vijayakanth factor saying it was up to the actor to accept or refuse the invitation to join the DMK front. Jawahirullah, who met Stalin on Monday had openly invited Vijayakanth to align with the DMK. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the alliance negotiations would begin in three days. Another Muslim outfit, the Indian Union Muslim League, which continues to be in the DMK front, has already formed a panel to hold seat sharing talks.
