Chennai: The BJP on Tuesday mounted a scathing attack on the opposition DMK saying that party was apprehensive of defeat at the hustings and hence is desperate for a poll tie up with the DMDK.

Wondering why the DMK is repeatedly talking about alliance with the DMDK despite the latter’s “snub,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said the DMK chief M. Karunanidhi was extending invitation to the DMDK as he was “apprehensive of facing defeat at the hustings.” “DMK president M Karunanidhi says he is still hopeful of clinching an alliance with the DMDK. His attempts are aimed at making everybody believe that the fruit is ripe and waiting to fall into the milk,’” she said speaking to reporters after chairing her party’s core committee meeting at Kamalalayam – BJP State headquarters here on Tuesday.

She sought to know whether he was ready to accept the actor as his combine’s CM candidate. Asked if the BJP is still holding any informal talks with DMDK founder Vijayakanth, she replied, “we attempted to revive the NDA in Tamil Nadu for this Assembly elections and accordingly put forth our views to them (DMDK and PMK) clearly. The onus is on them to ensure that we should end the rule of the Dravidian majors by coming together.” But they have not placed the welfare of the people above everything but were keen on only the chief ministerial candidate.

“Our aim is not just winning few seats in the elections but to bring a political change in the State. We don’t want to compromise for the sake of an alliance. We are talking of a good alliance mainly to prevent splitting of votes,” she added.
