Congress to CM K Chandrasekhar Rao: Take up RDS with Karnataka

The MLAs urged the CM to take up the issue and ensure water to parched Mahbubnagar, especially Alampur.

Hyderabad: The Congress on Tuesday urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to take up Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) issue with neighbouring Karnataka state, on the lines of Maharashtra accord.

Congress MLAs Chinna Reddy, Sampath and others said that though TS was eligible to draw 15.9 tmc feet of water, Mahbubnagar district was getting a meagre 5-6 tmc feet.

“The scheme is intended to provide irrigation facilities to 87,500 acres — 84,258 acres in Mahbubnagar and 3,242 acres in Kurnool district, but not more than 30,000 acres get water. Karnataka is resorting to illegal tapping of water,” they said. The MLAs urged the CM to take up the issue and ensure water to parched Mahbubnagar, especially Alampur.
