CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami to lead team to PM on Cauvery

All-party meet decides to fight for TN rights.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will soon lead a delegation of leaders from all political parties, MPs from the state and representatives from farmers' association to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate constitution of Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The decision was taken at the all-party meeting convened by Palaniswami on the next course of action to be followed on the Cauvery river water issue where political parties were unanimous in demanding that a delegation of leaders from Tamil Nadu meet Modi and submit a detailed memorandum.

Resolutions passed at the meeting resolved to urge Modi to immediately set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority as per the apex court's order within six weeks. At the meeting, Opposition leader and DMK working president M. K. Stalin proposed that the Chief Minister lead an all-party delegation to Modi.

The proposal was seconded by several political party leader who also asked the Tamil Nadu government to consult legal experts on the cut in the quantum of water for Tamil Nadu.

“This decision to take steps follows acceptance of the views of all party leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be urged to immediately implement the apex court verdict's beneficial features for Tamil Nadu,” another resolution said.
