Anantapur: Foes in same boat after jumping ship

Former minister Shilpa Mohan Reddy is now playing an active role in Telugu Desam.

Anantapur: A curious situation is emerging out of the long-running faction politics in Rayalaseema region after three leaders who fought with one or the other for three decades find themselves in one party “the ruling TD.”

There has been a faction feud between Bhuma and Gangula families since three decades in Kurnool district. Both families and their groups had kept themselves apart at all time and issued threats against each other.

Also, former minister Shilpa Mohan Reddy is now playing an active role in Telugu Desam. His brother Silpa Chakrapani Reddy is the district unit president of TD.

They had a 14-year-long political rivalry with Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy. Mohan Reddy is Nandyal in-charge who tasted defeat against Bhuma Nagi Reddy in the 2014 general elections.

Kurnool politics saw an interesting twist after Bhuma Nagi Reddy and his daughter Akhila Priya, MLA from Allagadda, decided to join the TD.

Chief Minister and TD supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu does not want exit of leaders from his party. Gangula Prathap Reddy was thus asked to cooperate with the party.

Mr Naidu had offered a compromise deal for the three groups. TD sources revealed the compromise deal would be “Advantage Naidu” while it would eminently trouble the YSRC in Kurnool district.

Silpa Mohan Reddy has expressed his displeasure over the joining of Bhuma Nagi Reddy into TD, but said he would now expect the party chief to at least protect the interests of all senior cadres of TD at all levels in Nandyal area.
