TD alleges Rs 221 crore scam in purchase of e-tablets for gifts

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam spokesman Komareddy Pattabhiram alleged that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had made Rs 221 crore in the name of tablets that had been distributed as his birthday gifts on Wednesday.

Talking to the media, he claimed that the Minimum Retail Price (MRP) of each A7 lite Samsung Galaxy tablet with a screen size of 8.7 inches was Rs 14,500 which was available on Amazon for Rs 11,999, while Jagan purchased it at Rs 13,262 each. He also claimed that if the tablets were purchased in bulk in 1 lakh pieces, each tab would cost Rs 9,000. Thus, a fraud worth Rs 221 crore occurred in the name of distributing birthday gifts, he pointed out.

Pattabhiram questioned Jagan’s decision to establish Byju’s Tuition Centre in the state, which was harassing both students and parents. He said that complaints had been lodged with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights against this company and questioned Jagan why he invited the institution to the state to set up its centre here, which had gone bankrupt after raising a loan of $1.2 billion.

Pattabhiram asked the Chief Minister why the AP Content Corporation, established by Chandrababu Naidu during his tenure, was forced to be closed. He said that Jagan alone had not distributed tablets to students, as similar appliances were being distributed in states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana.
