2G scam verdict: Congress happy, BJP disappointed in Tamil Nadu

Party's national secretary H. Raja contended that “justice will prevail†in the end.

Chennai: The 2G scam verdict washed away the hopes of the BJP here which expected the judgment to seal the fate of the DMK while in contrast the Congress chief Su. Thirunavukkarasar, a known BJP baiter since he switched loyalty from the saffron party, seemed to have the last laugh on Thursday.

Declining to comment on the special CBI court exonerating all 19 accused, including former Telecom Minister A. Raja and DMK leader Kanimozhi, in the 2G scam case, BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said the judgment “should be studied in detail.” However, she claimed that “the verdict has come like this…. The BJP is firm on eradicating corruption and bribery at all levels.”

Party’s national secretary H. Raja contended that “justice will prevail” in the end. “There are people who celebrated the Qunha judgment (John Michael D’Cunha, then Additional Judge of Karnataka High Court who convicted late CM Jayalalithaa in the 2016 disproportionate assets case). We looked at the comforts by the Coomaraswamy (Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy who acquitted J. Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case) judgment. Finally, Justice won. In the 2G case, the CBI & ED should appeal. The cancellation of spectrum licences is proof of corruption. Justice will prevail. Wait,” Mr. Raja tweeted.

Party MP Subramanian Swamy who was the first private complaint in the 2G case took to Twitter to air his thoughts on the judgment. “Congis and Allies celebrated JJ HC acquittal. Then in SC got deflated. Same will be here.” “This is not a setback at all, its an aberration as the law officers were not serious on fighting against corruption. So I hope the PM takes lesson from this.We must now fight corruption on war footing,” he said in another tweet.
