Hyderabad: BRS working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao here on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led Central government for failing to give 100 acres to widen roads in several areas of Secunderabad Cantonment.
Addressing a roadshow at Annanagar Crossroads in the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency, he said that the state government offered 500 acres in Shamirpet in lieu of 100 acres needed for widening the roads, but to no avail.
“We wrote 10 letters to the Central government requesting them to give land. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao also personally urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do the needful and allocate land. But there was no response,” he said.
Rama Rao said the only solution to problems faced by residents in Cantonment areas was merging the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). “Everyone knows the kind of development that took place in the GHMC limits in the past 10 years,” he said, drawing a loud applause.
“In spite of the Centre’s non-cooperation attitude towards resolving the problems of the residents, the BRS government ensured development in Cantonment areas. Apart from supplying free drinking water to residents, the state government waived Rs 40 crore pending dues from the SCB following a request from then MLA late G. Sayanna,” he said.
Recalling the services rendered by Sayanna as an MLA for five consecutive times in the Cantonment areas, he urged voters to support Sayanna's daughter, Lasya Nanditha, similarly and ensure her victory in the November 30 elections.
He also explained various government welfare schemes, emphasising the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, appealing for people to choose the BRS.
In another roadshow at the historic Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple on Subash Road in Secunderabad, which is part of the Sanathnagar constituency, Rama Rao slammed TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy for claiming a three-hour power supply was sufficient for agriculture.
He recalled that the industrial sector used to face power holidays at least twice a week because of shortages during the Congress’ tenure in united Andhra Pradesh. “Industrialists used to stage protests demanding the then government to supply power continuously. But the situation has now changed with the BRS government supplying power continuously since 2014,” he said.
Rama Rao, appealing to people not to believe Congress’ false promises, said: “Sanathnagar MLA and animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav doesn't need any introduction as he is well known to everyone in the city. Srinivas Yadav always strives for the development of the city.”
He said several BJP and Congress leaders from New Delhi, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MP Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, were arriving in the city to suppress the voice of Chandrashekar Rao.
“However, lion KCR always fights elections alone,” he said, adding that Hyderabad remained peaceful for the past 10 years and the BRS would ensure that the state continued to remain secular.
“We will continue to maintain secularism in the state even if we face pressure from Delhi… Telangana is an important example for the world for 'Ganga Jamuni Tahzeeb',” Rama Rao said.
