The counting of the votes will be held in Bharatidasan government college for woman, from 8 am.

Puducherry: The fate of the candidates in Nellithope constituency in the Union Territory ,including Chief Minister and Congress candidate V Narayanasamy, will be known on Tuesday. The counting of the votes will be held in Bharatidasan government college for woman, from 8 am.

The college where the EVMs were stored in a strong room has been given three-tier security and the entire area has been cordoned off. The final picture of the election could emerge even as early as 9.30 am.

The byelection was necessitated after congress legislator A. John Kumar resigned from the assembly to enable Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy to contest the election. Mr Narayanasamy is not an elected member of the house.

Eight candidates were in the poll fray but the main fight is between Mr Narayanasamy and AIADMK’s Om Sakthi Sekar. The election result is crucial for Narayanasamy to continue in the post of Chief Minister and also for the 5-month old Congress government in the state. Nellithope constituency had witnessed a record voter turnout of 85.67 percent in this election.
