SCB area residents seek merger with GHMC

One reason why they want this merger is because of the lack of public works roads, piped water supply and others in the SCB areas

HYDERABAD: Residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), upset with years of alleged apathy by the board, are now seeking merger of their areas with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

One reason why they want this merger is because of the lack of public works — roads, piped water supply and others — in the SCB areas.

“It is a known fact that the GHMC is well- funded when compared to the SCB. Also, the board wouldn’t have to run from pillar to post to get their works approved and it would become a quick-acting body,” said C.P. Prakash, a resident of Brooke Bond Colony.

If the merger takes place, then people wouldn’t have to deal with the archaic method of manually filling forms or paying fees for services, say the residents.

“While the GHMC has taken technology in the right stride, the same cannot be said about the cantonment. We still have to submit forms for building applications, which are then approved during an ordinary meeting of the board,” said Jitendra Suresh, a resident of East Marredpally.
