Kodiyeri Balakrishnan says UDF violated election code

He said that the chief election agent of the LDF candidate had filed a complaint and demanded action from the Election Commission of India.

Kottayam: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has accused the UDF of violating the election code of conduct in Pala for fear of defeat. He alle-ged that its pamphlets contained the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, which is sufficient for disqualification of its candidate.

He said that the chief election agent of the LDF candidate had filed a complaint and demanded action from the Election Commission of India.

“To drag the Father of the Nation to the election campaign is a violation of the code. The picture and the symbol of the candidate are present in the pamphlet,” he said Saturday. He alleged that the UDF never raised political issues in the election campaign and was seeking votes on sympathy.

“It is the UDF which had shown the most cruelty towards K.M Mani. They now say he is a great person,” he said. “The Congress was never ready to make him the chief minister thou-gh the opportunity came on several occasions.”

He said that the late leader himself had raised allegations of a conspiracy to trap him in the bar bribe case.

He also asked if Jose K. Mani was ready to relea-se the Kerala Congress (M) subcommittee report on the scandal.

Asked if the LDF would make its candidate Mani C. Kappen a minister if he wins, he said every MLA has a right to be one.
