Top Congress posts: It’s Kharge & Co. vs Siddaramaiah camp

Ibrahim seems to be Mr Siddaramaiah\'s choice for opposition leader in the Upper House.

Bengaluru: The state Congress is likely to see a battle between its old guard and the Siddaramaiah camp over the posts of opposition leaders in the Assembly and Council.

Party sources said the old guard of Dr G. Parameshwar, K.H. Muniyappa, Veerappa Moily and H.K. Patil are rallying around senior leader, M. Mallikarjun Kharge who is a confidante of Mrs Sonia Gandhi (now Congress interim president), to take control.

After the old guard stalled his plans to become opposition leader in the assembly again, Siddaramaiah is now pushing the candidature of former Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar or Mr Krishna Byre Gowda for the post. Mr C.M. Ibrahim seems to be Mr Siddaramaiah's choice for opposition leader in the Upper House.

Kharge and company are reportedly rooting for Dr G. Parameshwar or Mr H.K. Patil as opposition leader in the assembly and Mr S.R. Patil for opposition leader in the Council.
