CPM gears up for conferences; eyes more youngsters, women
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With less than a month left for the CPM conferences, the party is gearing up to turn the organisational exercise into an effective platform for unleashing mass campaigns, bringing families of party members on board and ensuring that representation in committees reflected the social realities of each area. The month-long branch conferences which begin on September 15 will have party members and candidate members as delegates. Local leadership has been directed to ensure the presence of families of party members at the inaugural session.
The local conferences from October 15 to November 15 will be elaborate compared to previous occasions. Red volunteer march and rallies will be organised ahead of these conferences. There will be an increase in the number of delegates attending area conferences. This time the delegate strength would be between 100 to 150. A strict direction has been given to the leaders at the area level to ensure more representation to youth and women in the committees. If earlier the area committees had 19 members, this time around with the consent of the respective district committees the number would be raised to 21.
There will be emphasis on ensuring proper representation to different sections of society. With most secretaries who have completed three terms in the post to move out as par central committee norm, there will be new leadership in many of the local and area committees this time. The party organisational conferences will focus on secularism, mass contact and social justice. During the discussions to be held on the organisational and political reports, issues like the impact of Centre’s neo liberal policies, communal agenda of BJP-RSS aimed at creating religious polarisation in the state and need to strengthen the organisational machinery to meet the challenges would be taken up in detail.
