Suresh Gopi, Bheeman Raghu in, P P Mukundan out of BJP panel
Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP has reconstituted its state committee with a jumbo team of 134 members, including Rajya Sabha MPs Suresh Gopi and Richard Hay and all the former state presidents and general secretaries. However, veteran leaders like P. P. Mukundan and K. Raman Pillai have not found a place in the committee.
In the state BJP executive, there are seven women among the 36 leaders. State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has included 38 special invitees, including cricketer S. Sreesanth, director Rajasenan and Bheeman Raghu. The permanent invitees include film director Ali Akbar who had contested from Vatakara seat and senior leader Alphonse Kannanthanam. Another 56 leaders are in the state committee.
“This cannot be termed as a jumbo committee as the state committee consists of 90 leaders. Communal equations have been maintained in the new committee which has 25 percent newcomers and 50 percent youth leaders below 45 years,” said a top BJP general secretary.
On Wednesday, a meeting of the state office-bearers will be held. National president Amit Shah will attend the state committee meeting at Thampanoor on Thursday. On the same evening, Mr Shah would also attend the martyr’s day of Syama Prasad Mukherjee being organised by the BJP Thiruvananthapuram district committee.
