We are on right track: Jayakumar
Chennai: Finance minister D. Jayakumar said the Edappadi K. Palanisami government was functioning as per the norms set by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and Tamil Nadu was adjudged as No.2 state in governance index released by a leading think-tank.
Mr Jayakumar also said closing down of 1,000 Tasmac shops on their own and shutting down another 3,000 after orders from Supreme Court and implementing several welfare measures like 50 per cent subsidy for working women to buy scooters are some of the "major achievements."
"Tamil Nadu was ranked No. 2 next only to Kerala in Governance Index (by the Public Affairs Centre) and we have been a role model to other states in governance. Despite many odds, we have been implementing 'mangalsutra for women', financial assistance for women and youth," Mr Jayakumar told Deccan Chronicle.
The finance minister said the state government has allotted Rs 77,000 crore in its budget for social welfare schemes and no other government in the country has allotted such a "huge amount" for such projects. "Tamil Nadu is under the golden rule of the AIADMK and it will continue to be," he said.
