Nizamabad: 10 days after Lok Sabha election, betting is still going on

Police is trying to trace betting gangs in the district.

Nizamabad: Punters are betting big over the winning chan-ces of major political parties from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, even though the polls were over 10 days ago.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha and TRS rebel Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas’ son D. Arvind are in the fray but the election received nationwide attention for the presence of 180 farmers who contested the election to draw attention to the unremunerative prices of red jowar and turmeric.

In view of this, supporters of different parties are betting huge amounts on their favourite candidates.

Betting organisers are busy collecting money over winning chances of both Ms Kavitha and Mr Arvind, the BJP candidate.

Some Congress supporters are hopeful that their party candidate will win.

Huge amounts have been placed on particular candidates and parties in the district.

A section of bettors is confident that the BJP will win from the constituency. TRS leaders believe that the support of the minorities and beneficiaries of welfare schemes will take Ms Kavitha to victory.

Meanwhile, police is trying to trace betting gangs in the district. Police is focussed on social media where the officers believe messages are being passed by betting ring organisers and punters.

It is believed that the interest in the election is so keen that betting on the outcome and its different aspects such as margin of victory, how much each candidate will get, how many votes each contestant will garner in Assembly segments is going on.
