Politicos' links with Nirmala should be brought out: Pon Radhakrishnan

Charges levelled against Governor to divert attention'.

CHENNAI: Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has claimed that some political party leaders have links with Assistant Professor Nirmala Devi who is involved in the university sex scandal; and said the “truth should be brought out.”

Contending that only a detailed probe could bring to light the association of leaders in this scandal, that has rocked Tamil Nadu, the minister alleged that the opposition parties resorted to agitations on the issue merely to divert the attention. “You would have heard what she (Nirmala Devi) had said.

She seems to have least hesitation. She spoke like a professional, clearly and strongly. This (scandal) is not something new. This could have taken place years ago. The leaders who have links with her should be brought out. To cover this up, the Governor is being blamed. This is a big plot to cover up the truth. The truth should come out,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said told reporters.

Charges are being leveled against the governor of Tamil Nadu only to divert the attention on the issue. “There is a plot to defame governor Banwarilal Purohit, who is honest and clean,” he added. Mr Radhakrishnan expressed the hope that former IAS officer Santhanam, who was appointed to probe the scandal, would bring out the truth.

Mr Purohit, in his capacity as chancellor of the university, ordered a 'high powered enquiry' by Santhanam, while Tamil Nadu police shifted the case from the Aruppukottai police to the CB-CID.

The minister also appealed to the people to repose trust on the CB-CID to thoroughly investigate the case. “Have faith on our police. There could be some black sheep, let those be eliminated. CB-CID has taken up several cases in the past,” Mr. Radhakrishnan emphasised.
