Congress hits out at Modi, K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao of deceiving people by making promises, which will never get implemented.
Addressing a press meet at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday evening, Mr Singh said while Congress was not against reservations to backward Muslims or to any other deserving section of the society, the way both the BJP and the TRS are going about the issue clearly gives an impression that both are interested in mere politicking.
He said both the leaders are using religion as an issue to divert public attention from pressing problems. He found fault with the way the TRS government clubbed quota enhancement for backward Muslims and STs in a single Bill. He said this could lead to existing quo-ta provided for backward Muslims getting scrapped altogether.
Eminent lawyer and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal asked the Chief Minister to explain to people as to how is he going to implement the increased quota for backward Mus-lims, as the state overshoot the Supreme Court set qu-ota limit and the BJP-led Central government refusing to give Constitutional protection to the Bill.
“The Chief Minister says he wants the quota bill to be put in the 9th Schedule of Constitution for protection. But who will have to do it? The Central government has to approve the Bill before putting it before Parliament. Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi ever allow this?” Mr Sibal asked.
He said both Mr Modi and Mr Rao are known for making tall promises and later conveniently ignoring them. “While Mr Modi promised one crore jobs a year, KCR promised one lakh jobs a year. Have they implemented these promises?’ he asked.
