Will contest if party wants: EVKS Elangovan

The Congress has been allotted ten seats including nine in Tamil Nadu and the lone Puducherry seat.

CHENNAI: Former TNCC chief E. V. K. S. Elangovan has expressed keenness to contest the Lok Sabha election but however said he would abide by the decision of the party high command.

“I would gladly contest if my party tells me or else I will campaign for the DMK-Congress combine in this Lok Sabha election,” he said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters here he said a formal announcement of candidates would be made at the earliest. Though he wanted to contest from Erode Lok Sabha constituency, he gave up as it was agreed to allot the seat to Vaiko’s MDMK during the seat-sharing pact between the DMK and the MDMK. “I am willing to contest…. but it is for the party to decide,” he said in reply to a question.

The Congress has been allotted ten seats including nine in Tamil Nadu and the lone Puducherry seat. Asked about the delay in releasing the list of party candidates, Elangovan said the party has to take time to finalise the list of candidates on all-India level.

Meanwhile, Vaiko who announced Ganeshmurthi as his party’s candidate for Erode, said the party nominee would contest on the symbol allotted by the election commission.
