TN to ryots: Will take up compensation issue soon

Revenue Minister R. B. Udayakumar assured that the government would look into the “discrepancies” and rectify them if any.

Chennai: The state government on Wednesday assured to take up the issue of meager compensation to farmers for crop loss, with the Centre and ensure justice to the ryots, Cooperation Minister Sellur K. Raju has said.

Intervening the speech of DMK member K. Pitchandi in the Assembly, Mr. Raju said it has come to the notice of the government that the insurance companies have “poorly” compensated the farmers for crop loss without taking into account the actual loss.

Raising the issue, Mr. Pitchandi claimed many farmers in Nagapattinam district were given a measly compensation and demanded to know if the farmers would receive adequate compensation.

TN gets over Rs 50,000 crrevenue through GST

Asserting that Tamil Nadu had received more revenue through the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said TN has realised Rs 50,148 crore revenue since GST came into force from July 1 last year. “Compared to VAT (Value Added Tax) the revenue from GST was more. During the DMK regime in the State, Tamil Nadu had obtained a revenue of Rs 43,438 crore through VAT,” he said.
