Pinarayi Vijayan flays Centre's public statement on massacre

The centre should have informed the relatives first in such instances instead of making a public statement, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has flayed the centre for announcing in Parliament the killing of 39 Indians abducted by the IS before the families of the deceased were informed of the tragedy.

Mr Vijayan was speaking after Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan presented an obit reference on the killing of 39 Indians by the terrorist organisation. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the centre had tried to cover up the incident, but was forced to announce it as it felt that Iraq would reveal it soon.

In a statement, the chief minister also said that it was unfortunate that the centre had initiated a fake case against Harjit Masih, who had managed to escape from the IS, and even branded him as a liar. The centre's act was inhumane, he said.

The centre should have informed the relatives first in such instances instead of making a public statement, he said.

"The Assembly as a whole condemns the killing of the 39 Indians and conveys its condolences to their families," the chief minister said.
