Unofficial' power cuts in Hyderabad raise the heat, says BJP MLA

Condemning the allegations, power minister G. Jagadish Reddy said that there were no power cuts in the entire state.

Hyderabad: The state Assembly saw some heated exchanges on Tuesday after BJP MLA N.V.V.S. Prabhakar alleged that there were unofficial power cuts in Hyderabad city.

Participating in the discussion on power and other demands, Mr Prabhakar said that though power supply position has improved in the twin cities, the people were still facing unofficial power cuts every day.

He said that there is no power supply for 1 to 1.5 hours every day. Mr Prabhakar said that though Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao were trying to improve the power situation, officials were unofficially stopping power supply for 1 to 1.5 hours.

Condemning the allegations, power minister G. Jagadish Reddy said that there were no power cuts not only in the city, but in the entire state. He said that sufficient power was available and the state was ready to meet any demand.

Mr Reddy said that the state government has supplied power without cuts even when the demand had crossed the 9,000 MW mark. “Officials are stopping power supply only when they are forced to carry out repairs or other maintenance works, that too with prior intimation to the people,” Mr Reddy said. To this, Mr Prabhakar told the minister that he would prove power was being cut every day for 1 to 1.5 hours.
