No request from VK Sasikala on jail transfer

The Karnataka prison manual allows for reciprocal transfer of prisoners from the host state to parent state prison.

Bengaluru: Amid heightened speculation on the likely ‘reciprocal’ transfer of jailed AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala, who is currently lodged at the Parapanna Agrahara Central Prison, to a prison in Tamil Nadu, highly placed sources in the prison department, the legal fraternity and the Karnataka CM’s office told DC that such a move would require her to write a letter to the jail Superintendent, which has not happened.

The Karnataka prison manual allows for reciprocal transfer of prisoners from the host state to parent state prison, subject to legal and state scrutiny. But in the case of Ms Sasikala, there is no question of reciprocity. “The government may not obstruct her transfer to a TN prison subject to mandatory clearance. There is no question of exchange of prisoners. One cannot, however, rule out some backdoor political negotiations,” said an official source.
