Both Dravidian parties belied people's faith, says Pon Radhakrishnan

The Minister was reacting to Saturday's Assembly proceedings during the confidence motion, for which the Governor had sought a detailed report.

Chennai: Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has blamed the Dravidian majors for the distasteful and violent incidents in the Assembly on Feb. 18 and said both ruling AIADMK and Opposition DMK belied the expectations of people.

“These parties have taken people, especially the voters, literally for a ride. The manner in which Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami won the trust vote and also the violent scenes that unfolded in the Assembly was a big disappointment for the people,” he said.

The Minister was reacting to Saturday’s Assembly proceedings during the confidence motion, for which the Governor had sought a detailed report. The elected representatives were being stage-managed by their leaders and both the Dravidian parties are responsible for the “shameful acts,” he claimed.

“The MLAs who come out of the Assembly are unsure if they will come out with their shirts and dhotis. Such is their state. Very disgraceful indeed! Will they think of people’s wellbeing?” he asked in reply to a question on increasing incidents of violence on girl child in Tamil Nadu of late.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr Radhakrishnan said that he had expected “something more” from Mr Edappadi Palaniwami, who signed 5 files on day one in office.

“When his predecessor (O. Panneerselvam) ordered a judicial probe into the death of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, I expected him to take things forward. But now this has remained a big question mark among the people in the state. No such announcement came forth. It was disappointing,” the minister said.
