Election Commission to verify voters list for missing names

It is not possible that the names will be there now, chief electoral officer Dr Rajat Kumar said

Hyderabad: Now that his (Beyniaz Edulji from Sainkpuri) name has been found on the list, the officers are saying there is no need to refill the form.

Rehmat Fatima of Yapral had a similar experience. Even her name went missing on the eve of elections and has now reappeared. “My brothers’ names were on the list. I was the one who had signed against the form when the officers came for verification,” said Fatima. “We had submitted all details at that time. Now, when we want to fill the forms again, the officers are saying the name is already there.”

Abida Hussain from Alwal said: “My husband’s name had gone missing from the list. We went for enrolment and this time my name is missing from the list. Both of us had to enrol again.”

“It is not possible that the names will be there now,” chief electoral officer Dr Rajat Kumar said. “They may not have enrolled in the verification carried out in 2015. We have to check these cases individually. We have been asking people to check whether their names are there in the electoral rolls and most of them are getting it verified.”

But the cases emerging now show a different picture. “Is there any way they are going to rectify it,” Edulji asked. “I have filled the form again for my satisfaction but am not sure if they will include it as they flatly told me that it is already there.”
