Congress to protest faulty electoral rolls
HYDERABAD: The TPCC Election Commission coordination committee headed by Mr Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Monday decided to hold a dharna on January 24 to protest against the alleged failure of the poll panel to take steps in the preparation of electoral rolls.
Mr Shashidhar Reddy said, “After polling for the Telangana Assembly on December 7, Telangana CEO Rajat Kumar apologised for the lapses as a result of which 22 lakh names were missing from the voter’s lists and assured that things would be set right before the Lok Sabha elections. The ECI is not at all serious about the preparation of a pure electoral roll.”
“The EC has ignored our repeated demand to fix responsibilities for the irregularities committed by officials at different levels and take strict action against them. The Election Commission is acting totally as an agent of the TRS party. Hence, we have decided to stage this protest. Though the EC is fully empowered to identify lapses and can direct the state government to take action against guilty officials, they are not doing it,” he added.
“The committee has also decided to address a letter to the Governor to draw his attention to the failure of the EC, before the National Voters Day on January 25, in which the Governor is customarily invited as the Chief Guest,” Shashidhar Reddy said.
