Govt to wait for autopsy report of medico: O Panneerselvam

He was responding to questions on the mystery surrounding his death and whether Tamil Nadu government was planning to seek a detailed inquiry.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government will decide the next course of action on the suspicious death of Dr Sharat Prabhu, a medical student from Tirupur district who was studying in a Delhi college, after the autopsy report is made available, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said here on Sunday.

The 24-year-old medical student was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of a private accommodation on Wednesday morning. He was pursuing MD in General Medicine at the University College of Medical Sciences affiliated to the Delhi University, was found. Since the medico spoke to his family the previous night, his father suspects foul play in his son’s death and has demanded for a detailed probe into the issue. After the autopsy, Sharath’s body was brou-ght to Tirupur and cremated. “The death of Dr Sharat Prabhu is unfortunate. Our heart goes out to the bereaved family. We are waiting for the autopsy report of Dr Sharat and we will decide our next course of action based on the report”, Panneerselvam told reporters here.

This is the second death in six months of students from Tamil Nadu pursuing medicine in the national capital. To a question on local body elections, the deputy chief minister said the polls will be held very soon as the preparatory work is on full swing. “The government was forced to increase bus fares due to financial constraints. It was unavoidable,” Panneerselvam said, when asked to comment on the recent hike in bus fare.
