JDS-BJP Seat Sharing To Finalise By January End, Says HDK

My role is confined to Karnataka alone

Bengaluru: The seat sharing between alliance partners Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) for the Lok Sabha 2024 would be finalized by January end, said former Chief Minister and JDS State president H.D. Kumaraswamy in New Delhi on Thursday.

After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kumaraswamy ruled out any confusion between the alliance partners on seat sharing and stated that seats and the nominees to be fielded in a particular seat will be decided through discussions. Regarding seat sharing, he said, “a couple of seats might go to JDS or to the BJP. But, there would be no confusion and if any would be resolved through discussions.”

Asked about the seats demanded by JDS, Kumaraswamy replied “We have a report on JDS confidence of winning seats and seats will be demanded as per the win ability factor of JDS.” Continuing, he said, JDS would work in BJP and strive hard to make Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for the third time in a row.

To a query, he said, his son Nikhil would not contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 but he is under pressure tro contest from the Mandya Lok Sabha seat which he had lost in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Even though Nikhil is under pressure to contest, he will not contest the election.

Adding, he said, Nikhil lost Ramanagar Assembly election in May this year and having faced two successive defeats, Kumaraswamy, is the incumbent MLA representing Channapatna Assembly seat, said his son enjoys “sympathy’ of voters. He also clarified that he would not contest Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and asserted that “My role is confined to Karnataka alone.”
