This girl gets Modi to wake up the babus

Namana from Chikkamagaluru gets response from PM to plea for power, health facilities.

Chikkamagaluru: Sixteen year-old Mallammat of Danapur in Gangavathi , Koppal district went on a hunger strike in August this year and was successful in getting her demand for a toilet met by the authorities. Her story caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who referred to her in his “Mann Ki Baat.”

And now drawing inspiration from Mallamma, another girl, Namana, from Morarji Desai Residential School, Bidarahalli in Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru has written to Mr Modi telling him about the pathetic condition of her village, Alekhan Horatti, on the border between Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada districts and asking for basic amenities for its people.

The girl was not disappointed as Mr Modi instructed the officials in Chikkamagaluru to act on her request a couple of days ago. Namana wrote to Mr Modi in October this year after listening to his “Mann Ki Baat” on All India Radio (AIR).

In her letter she praised the Swachch Bharat Mission, rural development, and efforts to wipe out corruption, but lamented that the Digital India concept had no meaning when villages like hers lacked mobile connectivity.

With Alekhan Horatti located in the thick forests of the Western Ghats, the village did not have power supply or health facilities, she lamented Seeing the response to her letter, an elated Namana said, “I wrote the letter about two months and am very happy to have got a response that will address the problems of my village.”
