Chennai: All is not well in the People's Welfare Front if one goes by the MDMK supporters trolling CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan in the social media seeking his condemnation of the DMK cadres' attack on their party chief Vaiko.
In a sarcastic tone, Mutharasan posted on his Facebook page thanking MDMK supporters for continuously “greeting” him in the social media for the last two days. “Thanks. Continue your work,” he wrote. PWF comprises of MDMK, CPI, CPI (M) and VCK.
DMK supporters pelted Vaiko's car with stones and footwear on Saturday evening when he went to visit DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, who is undergoing treatment for throat and lung infection.
Immediately, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin issued a statement condemning the incident and expressed regret. But Mr Vaiko alleged that the attack against him was planned and made at the behest of Mr Stalin.
Strangely, Mr Mutharasan alone became the target of MDMK supporters even though other allies VCK and CPI (M) also did not issue any official statement in this regard. VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan posted in the social media terming the incident as unfortunate and welcome Stalin's statement, while CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan gave a byte to a Tamil news channel saying that the incident could have been prevented.
Mr Mutharasan told Deccan Chronicle that MDMK supporters were trolling him for the past two days asking him why he did not condemn the attack on Mr Vaiko. “I thought the issue was closed when DMK leaders including Mr Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan condemned the incident and expressed regret,” he said, explaining the reason for not issuing a statement. A PWF leader felt that MDMK supporters' ire towards Mr Mutharasan may not be limited only to this issue.
“Mr Mutharasan had questioned Mr Vaiko for supporting the BJP government's demonetisation move. He asked whether Mr Vaiko supports the public sector banks writing off Rs 7,000 crore loan taken by the corporates?” the leader asked.
