Implead all firms that supplied bad seeds: Hyderabad High Court

Ms. B Rachana Reddy submitted that Cotton crop was damaged in thousands of acres in the state due to the spurious seeds.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday told counsel appearing for Telangana Telugu Desam MLA A. Revanth Reddy in a PIL to implead all the Seed Companies which are allegedly have supplied spurious seeds in the state .

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shankar Narayana was dealing with the PIL by the TD leader challenging the inaction of the state government in recovering the damages from the Seed Companies for supply spurious seeds and paying compensation to the effected farmers.

Ms. B Rachana Reddy , counsel for the petitioner brought to the notice of the court several farmers in the state have been facing severe hardships due to supply of spurious seeds and some of the farmers have also committed suicides due to crop loss caused due to spurious seeds and this problem is more rampant in Nalgonda and Khammam districts. She submitted that Cotton crop was damaged in thousands of acres in the state due to the spurious seeds.

Reacting to the submission of the counsel, the bench said the seed companies cannot escape from their responsibility of paying compensation to farmers when they supplied spurious seeds. The bench told the counsel to make seed companies responsible for selling spurious seeds as parties to the petition and adjourned the hearing.

Mr. Revanth Reddy while taking to media persons said that he will continue his legal fight.
