CBI can't poke its nose in state matters: Brijesh Kalappa

Congress leader wonders how BS Yeddyurappa is getting details of CBI probe.

Mysuru: All India Congress Committee(AICC) spokesperson, Brijesh Kalappa claimed on Tuesday that the CBI was on a fishing expedition under the Modi government and was being selective in who it targeted.

"In a federal structure, the CBI has no right to interfere in state matters and cannot question a state minister unless the state clears it or there is a decision by the High Court to that effect," he told reporters.

Asked if the CBI had issued notice to any Karnataka minister, he denied it , saying he was only reacting to the statement by BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa that the CBI would intensify its investigation against a few ministers said to be closely associated with two top ranking officers caught recently with huge unaccounted wealth.

"Who is Mr Yeddyurappa to pass on this information? He is an ordinary MP. But then how is he getting information from the CBI? If the information is being leaked by the CBI, that again is a violation. Mr Yeddyurappa is member of the Rumour Spreading Society.

There is a conspiracy to destabilise the state government and the BJP is targeting the Congress. All are equal in the country under Article 14 of the Constitution. But after Mr Narendra Modi came to power, the CBI only picks and chooses. Mr Yeddyurappa was acquitted and Janardhan Reddy was given bail. And how did Mr Amit Shah get cleared of his involvement in 17 murder cases?" Mr Kalappa demanded.
