INDIA alliance will sweep J&K elections: Congress

JKPCC Chief: INDIA Alliance to Win Lok Sabha Elections in J&K and Ladakh, Envisions Victory Nationwide

Srinagar: The Congress on Friday claimed that the INDIA alliance will win all the six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the general elections scheduled to be held next year.

JKPCC chief Vikar Rasool Wani while speaking to reporters here said, “Like in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil elections, INDIA alliance will sweep the forthcoming Lok Sabha election in J&K and Ladakh. It will emerge victorious in these elections elsewhere in the country too.”

The Congress-National Conference combine won 22 out of 26 seats in the recently held local council elections in Kargil. The impressive performance in these elections has come as a major morale booster for both the parties.

However, National Conference leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah has publicly stated that the poll outcome may add to the “fears” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and, therefore, there is no hope of Assembly or local bodies elections being held in J&K any sooner.

Mr. Wani said that the Congress is ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and it will contest the poll together with others in the INDIA alliance. Asked if there will be a seat sharing arrangement among the alliance partners, he said the Congress leaders will sit and discuss the modalities with them.

He denied that there is infighting underway in the JKPCC and said, “I feel Congress is now a good and strong party in J&K”.
