TRS government duped farmers: Uttam Kumar Reddy

The TPCC chief said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting in Hyderabad on Dec. 2.

Mahbubabad: Making it clear that the Congress will not rest till debt-ridden farmers are provided succour, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that the TRS government must change its attitude towards farmers.

Addressing a mammoth Rythu Garjana at the NTR stadium here, Mr Reddy said that the public meeting was the beginning of the fight for the farmers of TS. Citing the neglect of farmers after the recent heavy rains, Mr Reddy said that till now, the state government has not conducted assessment of crop damage.

He criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, accusing him of “completely failing to keep promises he made and thus sending farmers into debt-traps”. “KCR promised to waive farm loans but even with so many farmers ending their lives due to the debt burden, the CM continues to claim that Telangana farmers are happy,” he said.

Senior leader K. Jana Reddy said that the CM was boasting of achieving statehood for Telangana, but the reality was that it was the Congress which carved out the state.

“It is sad that farmers in the state are reeling under such problems due to an incompetent government,” he said. AICC secretary R.C. Khuntia said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was always on foreign tours, the TS CM was infamous for not keeping his promises.

“Both have failed as administrators. The people of the country will ensure the ouster of these two parties in the 2019 elections,” he said.
