Pioneering efforts of Rajiv Gandhi recalled on his birth anniversary

Telangana Congress leaders said that Rajiv had pioneered the IT revolution and state-of-the-art communication system in India

HYDERABAD: Congress leaders paid rich tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 77th birth anniversary on Friday.

TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC Telangana state in-charge Manickam Tagore offered floral tributes at Gandhi Bhavan and garlanded his statue in Somajiguda.

A blood donation camp was conducted on the occasion by NSUI.

Congress leaders said that he had pioneered the IT revolution and state-of-the-art communication system in India besides making it a science and technology giant. It was his desire to strengthen the Panchayat Raj system that suitable amendments were made to the Constitution. They recalled that he had reduced the right to vote from 21 to 18 years.

Senior leaders NS Bosu Raju, J. Geetha Reddy, Mohd Azharuddin, M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, Mallu Ravi, Sunita Rao, Balmuri Venkat, Anil Kumar Yadav and others were present.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana commemoration committee conducted events at Charminar where, led by TPCC senior vice-president G.Niranjan, they offered floral tributes to the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi.
