Initiate students in Ramanujar's system of education, urges scholar
Chennai: The Vaishnavaite saint Sri Ramanujar's emphasis on making the students assimilate sounds (of language) rather than focusing on Orthography (conventional spelling system) helps to enhance memory power aiding the students to excel in studies, said Prof M. A. Lakshmithathachar, traditional Sanskrit scholar who heads the Samskriti Foundation, Melkot, Mysuru, received the prestigious Sri Ramanuja Seva Sri award, instituted by LIFCO Group, for excellence.
Ramanujar's system of education is unique and it can help improve the memory power of the students, he said and called upon the educationists to adopt the great saint's system. "The proof lies in our tradition. Our ancestors preserved the Vedic tradition for centuries. A scholar from any part of the country, despite being tutored from different gurus, recited the verses accurately with striking resemblance. This is the power of sounds," he said while speaking at a conference.
A. V. Rangachari, former HoD, Economics, Anna-malai University and Dr. M. A. Venkatakrishnan, retired HoD, Dept. of Vaishnavism, Madras University too received the Sri Ramanuja Seva Sri award. Srimath Paramhamsa Thirumalai Tirupathi Peryiakovil Kaelvi Appan Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami who graced the occasion presented the awards.
Justice R. Mahadevan, Judge, Madras High Court, BJP MP L. Ganesan, Swami Vimrutananda of Ramakrishna Mutt, Chennai, T. N. C. Vijayasarathy Chairman, LIFCO Group and Mrs. Radha Vijayasarathy, MD, LIFCO Group, were among those who spoke.
