Government will introduce common building rules soon: Deputy CM O Panneerselvam
Chennai: The state government will soon unveil the draft form of the 'common building rules' for providing building plan approvals for high-rise and non-high-rise buildings emphasising on affordable housing, across the state, deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam has said.
“Affordable housing rules have been framed keeping in mind the disabled, elders and children too,… the planning parameters have been decreased. This draft plan will be released soon for views from the experts and public. After obtaining the views from all the stakeholders, the new building rules will be finalised and implemented soon,” Mr Panneerselvam said on Friday.
Inaugurating the Credai (Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India) Statecon 2018 here, in which over 500 developers, engineers and architects from across the state participated, Mr Panneerselvam who holds the finance and housing portfolios, explained the various initiatives of his government in simplifying the procedures including according building approvals within a month's time through online and also measures addressing the concerns of various sections.
“In order to ensure housing for the people living in huts on the banks of rivers, it has been proposed to construct multi-storied complex through the TN housing board, to accommodate about 38,000 families. Besides model housing projects for the low income group would be formulated and implemented, all at a cost of Rs. 4,648 crore with financial assistance from the World Bank. I am happy to inform you that the Central government has given its nod for these schemes,” Mr. Panneerselvam told the gathering.
Also, the state government has decided to create Shelter Fund to execute projects of affordable housing for the benefit of economically weaker sections in the society.
S. Krishnan, principal secretary , housing and urban development department, Rajesh Lakhoni member secretary CMDA, W.S. Habib. president, Credai Chennai, Ajit Kumar Chordia, president, Credai, Tamil Nadu & MD, Olympia Group and Beela Rajesh, Commissioner of Town and Country Planning, were among those who participated in the Statecon 2018.
